FILTREX
BORE-HOLE STABILISER \ FILTRATION CONTROL ADDITIVE
DESCRIPTION
Filtrex is a high molecular weight polymer emulsion. When added to a water-based drilling fluid, it reduces the rate with which drilling fluid pressure invades the borehole wall during drilling. Filtrex can also be used when drilling into reactive clays and shales, reducing pore pressure transmission and mud filtrate contact. Filtrex is effective in brittle, water-sensitive formations.
ADVANTAGES
- Readily dissolves
- Easily mixed in low shear environments
- Assists in filtrate reduction
- Reduces well bore pressure transmission in clays and shale
- Increases lubricity
- Physically plugs micropores
- Reduces hydraulic locking in ultramafics
- Controls irregular circulating pressures
- Improves core recovery and supports the borehole wall
- Reduces heaving and sloughing in poorly consolidated shales
- Reduces well bore swelling in conjunction with other inhibitors
- Used in brine, fresh and saline water
- Compatible with all other water-based products
TYPICAL PROPERTIES
- Appearance: Milky light pink viscous liquid with a faint acrylic odour
- Specific gravity: 1.05 – 1.11
- pH (4 % solution): 5.0 – 7.0
RECOMMENDED TREATMENT
- FILTREX is added to a water-based fluid system at a rate of 10–50L/ m3. Concentrations should be monitored and increased to control adverse conditions while drilling.
