POLYCORE

INHIBITOR VISCOSIFIER

DESCRIPTION
POLYCORE is a partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide polyacryate co polymer (PHPA) powder used to stabilise reactive clays and shale formations. POLYCORE has been designed to provide viscosity, cuttings encapsulation, stabilise reactive clays and shale, tighten filtration, enhance down-hole lubrication and improve core and sample recovery. POLYCORE can be used to prepare a solid free drilling fluid with exceptional hole stabilizing properties or to improve the physical properties of Air / Foam injection fluids.
POLYCORE is readily soluble in fresh to mildly saline water.

    APPLICATIONS/FUNCTIONS
POLYCORE forms a protective film over the bore hole walls and core. POLYCORE will reduce water invasion into hydratable dispersive clays and shale thus providing excellent cutting encapsulation and borehole stability. POLYCORE will significantly reduce drag and rotational torque when used in a diamond drilling application. POLYCORE can be used as a single product low solids mud system, can be combined with Bentonite and is effective in inhibitive salt systems such as NaCl and KCl based fluids. Concentration will increase slightly when used in a system containing inhibitive salts. Addition rates can be adjusted to suit specific applications, hardness must not exceed 400 mg/l Calcium.

    ADVANTAGES

  • Low concentrations required
  • Easily mixed into low shear environments
  • Forms a complete low-solids drilling fluid system
  • Effective in fresh, mildly hard saline environments
  • Effective in NaCI & KCI systems
  • Provides viscosity and improves lubricity of most fluid systems
  • Inhibits reactive clays and shale
  • Effective cuttings encapsulator that limits dispersion rates
  • Can improve sample recovery and penetration rates
  • Reduces bit and reamer balling
  • Eliminates rod chatter in diamond core drilling
  • Can be used as a flocculant at low concentrations
  • Compatible with most water based products
  • Improves the properties of Air / Foam systems
  • Non-toxic and will not ferment

    TYPICAL PROPERTIES

  • Appearance: White free flowing powder
  • pH (0.28 % solution): 7.0 - 8.0
  • Nature of Charge: Anionic

    RECOMMENDED TREATMENT
0.75 - 2.0 kg per 1000 L - To stabilise swelling clays and shale 1.0 - 2.5 kg per 1000 L - To improve hole stability and core recovery in sandy soil 1.5 - 2.5 kg per 1000 L - To stop rod vibration and reduce torque 0.7 – 1.0 Kg per 1000 L - Prepare injection fluid for foam drilling

POLYCORE should be slowly introduced into mechanical agitation or through a mud hopper.

POLYCORE can be broken down using a liquid Sodium Hypochlorite solution if desired.
